The students patiently wait for the butterflies to be released from our netting.
We have released four adult monarchs so far. Three have been boys and one was a girl. In these pictures, you can see how excited the kids are as our girl takes off into the air. The bottom picture shows (you can barely see it in the bottom of the picture) the orange newborn getting ready to fly for the first time.
Our first photos here are of our newest favorite animal... the monarch. This video will give you an idea of what the milkweed plant, the monarch egg and the monarch caterpillar look like. We want to collect some for our classroom so that we can observe these sights in person.
*** We have another new favorite animal...
The Aardvark!
We are learning poems out of a fun book called "Mammalabilia" by Douglas Florian. It goes like this:
The Aardvark
Aardvarks aare odd
Aardvarks aare staark
Aardvarks look better
By faar in the daark!
ANOTHER FAVORITE ANIMAL!!!! ALSO OUT OF THE MAMMALABILIA BOOK.
BACTRIAN CAMEL

The Gorilla
A gentle giant
Blessed with grace
It's stilla
Gorilla
Don't get in his face!

Wood chopper
Tree dropper
Tail flopper
Stream stopper.
*This one has motions!
The Zebra
How many zebras do you see?
I see two zebras
I see three
I see three too
I see four
I see four too
I see more!
Lynx
Some people wear fur coats of lynx
I
Think
That
Stynx!
Ibex
The daring Ibex risk their necks
On scary, airy mountain treks
Each one must climb with skill complex
Or else become an ex ibex!
The Otter
I state most emphatic,
An otter's aquatic
An otter loves water-
An utter fanatic.
It's most acrobatic
And quite charismatic.
I state most emphatic,
An otter's aquatic!
The Rhebok
The rhebok's main
Claim to fame
Is it's name.
The Elephant
An elephant, rising,
Finds grass appetizing.
And how it loves munchin'
More grass for its luncheon,
As well as its dinner.
It's not getting thinner
And not looking leaner-
It's just growing greener.
